The end result of my first macram\u00e9 project.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Macram\u00e9 plant hangers have become quite popular these days. I thought it would be complex to create one but my first project actually went smoothly and I think it is ideal to do as a sunday afternoon project. When you only know a couple of macram\u00e9 knots you can already make a varied set of different looking hangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this first project I got inspired by a local restaurant where they had big plants hanging in glass balls with macram\u00e9. The glass balls made the overal look very fancy and modern. So I ordered a ball of 27 cm diameter size and with a small opening (available at www.amazon.nl<\/a>) and found nice macram\u00e9 yarn and a wooden ring in our local craft store. With a bit of research on the internet, I selected 2 basic knots (the square knot and the spiral knot) to use and found that my ropes needed to be of ~7 meter long. So far so good….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For macram\u00e9 you do not need much, only macram\u00e9 yarn, a ring, a pair of scissors and optionally measuring tape.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The glass ball looked great when I received it and I bought a nice plant to go with it. I worked on the macram\u00e9 knots and pretty quickly I was already close to the end. When fitting the glass ball I found that the plant I bought actually didnot fit into it….only very small size plants can be used, not what I had in mind…. When further fitting the macram\u00e9 around the ball I even dropped it and it fell into 100 pieces…. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So my first project was a bit of a disaster. The glass ball was interesting as an idea but I think it needs to have a much wider opening in order to give the effect I had wanted. Being pragmatic I ended up with another nice pot and I am actually quite happy with the result. What do you think? Do you have nice examples of glass ball macram\u00e9 plant hangers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
